A2A receptor does not affect PMN pulmonary numbers or host resistance to infection. (A) WT and A2AR^−/− mice were infected i.t with 5 × 10⁴ CFU S. pneumoniae TIGR4. At the indicated timepoints following bacterial challenge, lungs were harvested, digested, and stained for PMNs and analyzed by flow cytometry. Data are pooled from 3 separate experiments with n = 4–6 mice per group. Lungs (B) and Blood (C) were harvested at indicated timepoints and plated on blood agar plates and CFU was enumerated. Data were pooled from 2 separate experiments with (C) n = 11–12 mice per group and (B) n = 6 mice per group. (D) WT and A2AR^−/− mice were infected as in (A) and monitored for survival.
