Fig. 4

The mRNA expression of some mitochondria-related genes in colon tissues from UC patients and DSS-induced colitis mice. a. qRT-PCR analysis of the mRNA expression of mitochondria-related molecules (HK3, DACT2, SUGCT, ECHDC3, ALDH1L1, TOMM20L, SDHA, NDUFS4) in colonic tissues of adult- and elderly-onset UC patients and healthy controls (N = 5). b. qRT-PCR analysis of the mRNA expression of the above molecules in colonic tissues of young and aged colitis mice (N = 5). Values were expressed as means ± SEM. Each sample was performed with 3 independent experiments. Statistical significance was determined using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s multiple comparisons test. *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01, ***P < 0.001, ****P < 0.0001. Abbreviation: qRT-PCR, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction; SEM, standard error of the mean; NC, negative control; UC, ulcerative colitis; DSS, dextran sodium sulfate
